Polyculture Update 26 June 2011

The plants in the Polyculture experiment are starting to grow, with the clover beginning to cover the bed. I wanted to post some pictures, mainly to record the progress of the experiment. These pictures were taken two days ago.

The first picture is of one of the test beds.

You can see that much of the ground has been covered by the clover, but there is some space at the front of this picture. I may need to sow some more. The next picture is of the second test bed.

Vegetable Growing Update and Polyculture Details

With so many of my recent posts concentrating on bees and swarming, I thought that it was time to get the camera out, and show you what I’m up to in the vegetable growing areas, and show you the first pictures of my new, experimental, polyculture, or guild, which is a hybrid of Bon Fils grain growing, and the three sisters planting guild, but with a couple of additional twists.

Skeps and Swarms

Hi All

I’ve not posted for a while, part of the reason is that I did a skep making course last weekend, which was nice. Since then I have been catching up with my planting out, and thinking through a new system for growing some of my food, which mixes small scale wheat growing, polycultures, hugelkultur, and possibly bamboo.

Two Queens, or Two Swarms?

Another hectic day makes me think back to April and thinking that I was getting ahead. Foolish. Again it was bees that took up most of my time. I also saw two queens within what acted like a single swarm. This is how the day went.

Two Swarms, and a non-Swarm

Although I have stacks that I want to post about, once again, today it’s bees again, and once again, I’ve spent the whole day, in a bee suit, in the sun, and I feel like I’ve got a hangover before I sink the first glass of red.

Today was not all successful, and I wanted to make sure that I record my failures as well as my successes, so here goes…
